history

We are situated in a large meander in a sheltered glacial valley. This has formed a large plateau surrounded by woodland facing South with a small spate river on three sides of the plateau. These conditions have proved ideal for continued human settlement throughout the ages

On site we have:

a) Fortified remains of a 3000yr old hill fort (scheduled ancient monument)

b) Original post medieval house, revealing historic changes throughout the ages, from the 12th century to the present day including grain store

c) A small section of Watts dyke from approximately the 8th century

d) Chapel of St Leonard de Glynne (scheduled well chapel) which is (to date) the smallest chapel in the UK. Dating is difficult but the current structure is about 12 centuries old and in excellent condition

e) Post medieval bridge

f) Medieval roadway

g) Remains of Gresford Colliery pumphouse and sluice gates

We also have access to two reconstructed round houses
